65daysofstatic - One Time For All Time[Japan bonus tracks]

Download

One Time For All Time was the first album I had heard from 65daysofstatic and it has remained my favorite offering from the Sheffield, England band. I would highly recommend it to any fan of great instrumental music. The combination of traditional rock guitars and live drums with extensive electronics, sampled percussion, and techno beats create a sound that captures the hypnotic beauty of post-rock, as well as the driving force of fast, heavy instrumental rock.

LIYL: Mogwai with a bit of Squarepusher, Slint remixed by Aphex Twin, or Godspeed You! Black Emperor collaborating with M83.
Have A Nice Life - DeathConsciousness

"The production, the tones, the chord choices, the vocals, the lyrics, the concepts, everything is stunningly brilliant and just laughably remarkable about this album. If needed to provide examples, I could do it for every track. The slow and steady build that is "Bloodhail" tossing its way between a propulsive Joy Division-esque rhythm section and beautiful dual vocals, the drums that kick in and take "The Big Gloom" to a whole different spectrum of gorgeousness than the tracks preceding it even hinted at; there are so many great moments on this record I could talk about them for days..."

LIYL: Mogwai, Joy Division, other experimentalshoegazey music.

Laura - Radio Swan Is Down

Download

"Hailing from Melbourne, Laura are one of the few Australian post-rock bands who play in a style that can be easily compared to contemporaries such as Godspeed You! Black Emperor or Explosions in the Sky. On first examination, their music sounds like the midpoint of those two bands. Closer examination, however, reveals a greater depth to Laura's music and a much broader range of sounds. Laura employ a wide range of instruments on Radio Swan is Down; guitars, synthesisers, samplers, strings, male and female vocals, brass and various percussion instruments all make welcome appearances throughout the record."

LIYL: Mogwai, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Explosions In The Sky, etc...
